About St. Patrick Society of Peoria

The St. Patrick Society of Peoria is a dedicated cultural organization committed to preserving and promoting Irish heritage, history, and traditions throughout the Peoria, IL community. Founded in January 1980 by Jack Cassidy, Ed Dwyer, Bob Mahoney, Bill O'Connell, and Richard Parsons, the Society has established itself as a cornerstone of Irish cultural celebration in central Illinois.

The organization sponsors major annual events designed to engage people of all ages and backgrounds. The St. Patrick's Day Parade & Party, held each March 17th regardless of weather conditions, features competitive categories for business entries, family entries, and organization entries, with awards recognizing outstanding participants. The Society honors two community members annually as Irish Mother of the Year and Grand Marshal, celebrating their contributions to the local Irish community.

The Peoria Irish Fest (originally named Erin Feis) has grown from a modest Sunday afternoon gathering into a three-day celebration held the last full weekend in August on the Peoria Riverfront in partnership with the Peoria Park District. This expansive festival features traditional and contemporary Irish musicians, professional Irish dancers from multiple schools, cultural exhibitions, and ancient athletic competitions including the Sheaf Toss, Caber Toss, and Stone Put. The festival also incorporates spiritual observances through Catholic Mass and Celtic Worship Services, with proceeds supporting local food pantries.

Beyond these signature events, the St. Patrick Society of Peoria periodically sponsors additional cultural programs that further their mission. The organization welcomes memberships and invites community participation in celebrating Irish culture and traditions.
